Hello all!
Wanting to know if anyone has successfully linked the AIO-5 to CANbus on a K25 HexHead?
I purchased the LIN module which uses the sat-nav preparation socket (3 pin). Unfortunately you have to use the wheel control of later bikes to complete the Bluetooth pairing - without the wheel it cannot be completed and you cannot therefore access the CANbus data.

I have looked at the socketry under the rear seat (I have RDC tyre pressure monitoring) and I have an 8 pin connector. Chigee sell a CANbus module in both 4 pin and 8 pin types, but do not state compatibility with the earlier bikes - I suspect this is simply something they haven't looked at.

Any experience out there?

Thanks in advance!

What would you hope to achieve by using the module?

As I understand it, the Chigee CAN module allows only the wheel to be used. The Chigee CAN module doesn't give any user readable data as such. it's the LIN that does.

GSIan - I was looking into getting one of these devices too, and while I can’t speak to Mad Max’s needs, I was looking at it purely from an Apple CarPlay point of you so that I don’t need to use the phone on the Motorbike for music and maps.

I’m on a first gen 1200 and not too keen on the other data but welcome it if there’s a way.

My understanding is that all three modules are capable of sending data to the AIO-5, and while I'm happy with the display I have for Apple Car Play, I'd quite like to fill in the 'blanks' on the other screens...

Abhi,
The Apple Car Play functionality is great, and a real improvement over my previous Garmin Zumo 660 (obvious I know!), and removes any need to mount a phone on the bike where it's exposed and impacted by vibration.

I'd thoroughly recommend.

I used the CGRC-CAN on a 1250GS before the LIN version came out. It only allows for the control by the wheel. To get the data; such as TPMS and Temp etc I needed to get the LIN.

It will work, it will connect to your phone and mirror what's on that. You could just connect to switched live and ground and control it from the touch screen or with the CG wireless PRO remote. The Wireless remote doesn't connect to the bike just the Chigee device. The CGRC devices are optional for the compatible machines whereas the wireless PRO RC will work independently.

There's no adapter cable available to connect the wireless OBD module to the round 10 pin OBD connector of the Hexhead.

seeing as this is a product many never heard of... its an aftermarket screen to link your phone sat nav - which probably won't get a signal in your pocket if you have a decent jacket

further link beneath the pictures is their support pages for the BMW scroll wheel fitted on LC bikes

the five below says it doesn't work on BMWs " CGRC LIN cannot work with AIO-5 Play For BMW. "

5play-main-2.png

Considerations Before Purchase:
- Before buying a CGRC LIN, ensure your BMW has the 3-pin navigation interface.
- Be aware that you will need to disconnect from the BMW NAV to connect the CGRC LIN to the 3-pin navigation interface.

CGRC CAN: Controls the wonder wheel. (can be daisy-chained with other devices)
CGRC LIN: Controls the wonder wheel + directly reads BMW's Native Data. (cannot be daisy-chained with other devices)

Important Notes:
1. CGRC CAN and CGRC LIN Cannot Be Used Simultaneously
2. Can CGRC CAN be Daisy-Chained?(e.g. Hex ezcan)
3. CGRC LIN cannot work with AIO-5 Play For BMW.
4. CGRC LIN must be connected directly to the 3-pin navigation interface and cannot be daisy-chained with other devices.

@GSian That's really useful information. I can now stop pursuing such an answer from Chigee. Thank you.

GSian, you are correct. Though my bike has (for the TPMS/alarm) 8-pin connector under the rear seat and I had asked Chigee whether there OBD module (8Wire) would work.....

given your other comments, it's now a mute point - the OBD adapter doesn't deliver CANbus data......

again, thank you for your information.....

For clarification the "CGRC LIN" can be used with the "AIO-5 Play", but the "CGRC LIN" isn't needed with "AIO-5 Play For BMW" as the data comes through the Garmin-derived BMW sat nav interface/mount.
