Hi all, I need some tech help regarding my '99 1100GS.

Today I took off my Laser exhaust pipe and chip, and swapped them for the stock pipe and chip. The bike wouldn't start afterward. I checked for spark and there was none. Also, gasoline was really shooting hard out of the spark plug hole, hard enough so that if the plug was in, gas would leak out of the throttle body. If the plug was out, it would shoot a couple feet out and wet the ground.

Also, I put the Laser chip back in at the end, figuring I could use the bike, but the bike wouldn't start. This seems to indicate that the motronic is at fault, as the laser chip worked fine up until I removed it this morning. I'm now wondering if my Motronic buggered, or could it be something else? I didn't mess with any other part of the bike, except for the motronic so.... Is there any way of testing the Motronic unit?

Any and all help is most welcome. And by the way, the negative lead on the battery was unhooked while working on the motronic, so I don't think I fried it that way.

Cheers,
Jim

Don't take this the wrong way but is the chip in the right way round?

Apparently if it's in the right way (notch to the outer edge of motronic unit) the fuel pump pressurises when the ignition is turned on and then stops making a noise.

If it's in the wrong way round the pump keeps pumping (i.e. the noise doesn't stop) and it won't start. This is what I was told before I did mine anyway.

If it's not that I can't help, sorry. Good luck.

Pet subject of mine thes chips are static sensitive I am not say ing that this is the case but you can blow them just by touching them.
they should be handles in such a way as to not allow any difference in potential between the chip and yourseldf when you touch it. this is illustrated by the spark and zap you can get on getting out of the car and locking the door.
To do the job properly a static handling kit should be used this consists of a mat and a wrist strap connected to it so when the chip is on the mat you are elecrtically at the same potential and therefore no zap. The static handling kits are available from Maplins, CPC, RS etc. You would not dream of using an imperial spanner on a metric nut etc. what I am saying is use the right tools and everything should be ok.
