With the way Google are, I would be thinking I5 laptop with Linux, try and get a handle on how much info you are passing onto Mr Google...

I was thinking 14 inch minimum, also that only has 32gb memory, not that I'm even sure what that means or how much I would use tbh.

perhaps if you specified some of your requirements such as screen size and whether you want to store 2TB of porn or be able to stream video in 4k

what is your budget?

I was looking at one at £350 but tbh it's probably a bit ott for my needs though it had a 17inch screen but screen size will effect battery, so there is always a trade off. but 14 minimum, and upwards of £300. One thing I've learnt if the older the model the less time google will support it, not sure if that's a big issue or not as older ones can be cheaper obviously.

It's a minefield out there, there are 100's of them.

Cabby, have you thought about a tablet ? Such as a Samsung 10 inch

No a great fan of tablets, I like to be prone while having device on "lap"

I use an iPad in a flip case. Can be used whilst laid down. Same can be done to other makes.

32 gb of storage? you get more than that on a phone. If you going to use it for TV viewing/streaming you will probably want to store the odd film etc on the device and 32gb is just not enough now, eMMC storage is CRAP cheap and very slow compared to an SSD

I was looking at the Acer 314, seems to come in various memory from 32/64/128 with obvious price increases as you go.

even with a chrome book go for minimum of 4 gb ram and most storage you can get, films take up a lot of space

Cabby, you've got to figure out if you want one with a touchscreen, which can be used in various ways, ie flip, 3 in 1 and whatever modes they're called. Touch screen is very useful for zooming in on maps etc.

I had an Acer Chromebook R13 until a few months ago and it was excellent. It wasn't built like a macbook, and wasn't nearly as fast, but it was flexible and served it's purpose very well. Discontinued now though.

The touchscreen was valuable once you've used one I've since found out. It was 3 in one, so normal laptop, tablet and tent mode (which was more useful than you'd think).

I'm sure there's a more modern equivalent...

If you want to choose a chrome book, just buy the cheapest as they are shite, for anything else other than browsing.

My current lappy is touchscreen and I never use it so not bothered abut that, the tent thing I just don't get as it can be folded up anyway.

Just bought the 64gb version for my son seems to be a great machine for the money with a good screen (1080)
