At present my quest is running European city select v6, and I've got city navigator nt+ v8 on disc, is there any way I can put the maps from v8 onto my quest or is it incompatible???
My pc is saying devices found but none have the capabilities to download the maps. :nenau
Sorry if this question has been asked before

Where did you get the V8 from? Have you got the unlock codes? Has it been used previously on more than one GPS? I think you can only use it twice :nenau

If you're currently using City Select 6 then I suspect it's an original Quest, in which case it's not NT compatible.

I think the Quest 2 is though...

I've got the unlock codes and its only been used once. Downloaded it onto the pc no problem, but when trying to download to my quest it states the quest does not have the capabilities :(

Bugger.....My GPS is one of the 1st quests, so it looks like you are probably right Steve. What's the easiest and cheapest ways to upgrade my maps, as they are well out of date now and dont show many of the new roads/bypasses :nenau

Is your Quest registered? If it isn't why not register it after Version 9 is released, so that you get the free upgrade to the most recent maps.

If its already been registered, bearing in mind that City Navigator Version 9 due out very soon, can't you get a Version 8 DVD cheap? :nenau

Thanks Taff. Dont think I ever registered it, so I'll give that a go :thumb

If you haven't registered it, don't register it just yet. If you register it after Version 9 is out in a few weeks, then you will get that one. :thumb

I thought that the Quest used City Select and the 2610 used City Navigator - the reason being that you would clog up the memory on the Quest using the higher detail of the City Navigator? :nenau

Or am I talking bollox

Al :D

My Quest runs City Nav v8 no problem (they're right about it not being compatible with NT tho'). All of UK and a chunk of Northern French coast fits OK.

One thing to consider with the Quest is that the tile sizes in CN v8 are far bigger than in City Select. Plotting a continental route will have you running out of available mapspace/memory on the Quest far sooner. You can get to Spain and back if you follow the same/ish route there and back but try a circular route via the Alps, Madrid and coming back up the West coast of France and you'll run out of memory. Using City Select this route would leave you with plenty to spare.

CN and CS are essentially the same map with the same detail needing approximately the same space.

If memory size is an issue - can be on the Quest 1 - then CN7 and CS7 are good choises. It was not until CN8 as the map chunks got bigger.

I have City Select v6 and City Navigator v8, bought City Select Upgrade from eBay but apparently Garmin will only activate upgrades to the current version (which there isn't for City Select).

If anyone knows a way around this I'd be glad to hear about it. Despite buying the upgrade disks from eBay it is a Genuine Garmin 3 disk set and came with shrink wrap intact.

At the end of the day I'm left with the choice of using CN v8 or if I need to fit more on CS v6 which is a little behind the times, hence my purchase of the CSv7 upgrade.

First - one don't "buy" upgrade discs. They are free of charge. Just order them from Garmin. It is the Registration Code that costs money.

Second - Garmin will only activate upgrades to the current version (v9) as you say but it doesn't matter if you upgrade from CS or CN. The upgrade price is the same, $75 + VAT, no matter if you upgrade from v4, v5 or whatever.

Third. If you have a Genuine shrink wrapped Garmin 3 disk set you should also have an unused Registration Code (Cupon Code) on a yellow piece of paper. This code, if unused, qualifies you to a free upgrade to v9. But you still have to install the CSv7 before you can add the free CNv9 upgrade to it. So in the end you will have v6, v7, v8 & v9.

But from what you write I suspect that you have been framed. If you don't have the yellow slip with the Cupon Code to your CSv7 disks something is wrong. Maybe someone sold you just a kit of outdated, free, upgrade disks? :o

That looks like it.... :( This was a few months ago and I already had the genuine CN v8 disks from Garmin from my genuine full CS v6. I just wanted the most recent set of City Select maps with the smaller map tiles. Had already written it off as a 'live a learn' experience but thought I'd ask all the same.
