Booked in for a service on my 1200 soon first one that I have to pay for{out of warranty}speaking to someone who has had such a bad experience there that he now rides a Yamaha. He ended up taking his bike to Long Eaton BMW where they fixed it after many failed attempts at Clarks.
Is this a one off or have others suffered the same fate ?

Never had a problem with Clarks on the servicing side. Chris, their service manager, is always more than helpful.

+1. I`ve always found them very helpfu and do the job well. Dan, who owns it, is generally there so if you have a problem you can talk to him directly:thumb

:thumb for Clarks as well from me. The 4 years I was riding F650GS's for Network Rail meant I was always in Clarks having stuff done (Mostly down to the bike's being a tad crap at wet weather & ice/snow, they were 51 plate's & seemed to have a lot of issue's.) Chris & the team always helped out as best as possible & kept us rolling & able to respond to fault's/fatalities all the while. Even though I havent been there since 2005, Chris still remembered me & has been very helpful with information for my new bike.

Handled like it was on...........errr......well you get the idea. :D

As for Clarks, just been down there today. They checked my bike over & solved my "what the hell is clunking at the frontend issue" for me & gave me all the information needed to resolve it including prices/work involved etc.

Still :thumb from me then.

below average in my experience

Service side is great, just don't get involved with Chris upstairs in regards to warranty claims, they quibbled with me over manufacturing issues on a bike that was 2 months old  and bought from them, Pidcocks in Nottingham just resolved the same issues, no problem... hence the reason the new bike was bought from Pidcocks, you get a free cuppa at Pidcocks too! :thumb

Clarks brake (break) service!

Took my bike in to Clarks to get the brake pads replaced all round - paid £175 to supply and fit but during fitting they broke off the bleed nipple on the rear caliper. Then Chris told me that they would need to order a replcement kit - £25 and they would need to take off the tank to flush the brake lines through -something to do with the abs pump - £85 labour

Questions:

Should i have to pay for something that they broke despite the fact that it was probably seized when i took it in?

Do bleed nipples break frequently i.e. they should have expected a problem and told me in advance?

Any advice would be gratefully received before I have the next conversation with chris.

I wouldn't pay for them to repair damage that they are responsible for. The reason you took the bike to them in the first place, and pay high BMW labour rates, is because they are meant to be the highly trained experts. Dig your heels in - do not pay for their hamfistedness and lack of care. Be polite but firm with Chris - give them a chance to put it right at their cost. If they refuse to play then tell them you will put your case in writing and copy in BMW UK. Hopefully it won't get to that.:thumb

UPDATE REQUIRED:)

Hi all, newbie to the forum,
I have just had a few problems with Clarks and BMW, I have made several complaints to BMW and now Clarks have been in touch to talk to me on how they can improve and repair the damge done. I shall tell more after i have had the chat with Clarks.
All i can say it does pay to complain, be firm and concise and never become abusive.
At the end of the day if they don't want your money then go elsewhere !!

Hi all,
I agree totally with bushman,if you are not happy with their service go elsewhere.I am new to this website and to bmw but have bought plenty of bikes and the aftersales service is just as important as the price when I am buying a bike. This was the main reason I did not buy from clarks as I heard too many negative reports about them from long standing bmw owners.Rightly or wrongly I paid heed to what I was told and bought from woolaston and my decision was vindicated by the great service I have recieved from them.I also do not take part in the salesman is my best friend
and I got free coffee because they like me attitude. When I buy a new bike I expect it to be trouble free and even more so from a bmw.It seems to me clarks need to take a look at themselves.Limey
