My panniers are looking the worse for wear after one or two ... er ... 'altercations'. Are there any tecniques/wonder products that will lift out paint from Ford Transits, bollards etc, from the grain in the plastic?

My filtering technique is 'progressive' shall we say ....:)

Sounds 'a bit crap' :D

I've found that grained plastic is cleaned easily with any propriety brand of dashboard cleaner (I use Autoglym). If the scrapes are bad, try contacting your local 'Chips Away' franchise (Yellow Pages). They re-finished the grained plastic bits of my Pan's panniers after the bike got knocked over. I was very impressed by the result, you really couldn't tell they'd ever been damaged. Total bill was about £30ish.

Me too...

Deeper gouges can be sanded out... then spray with black bumper paint.... then Back-to-Black for that showroom finish!

If you've already had 1 or 2 altercations the chances are it's gonna happen again so don't spend too much time/effort unless you're selling.

P.S. don't be tempted to do what 1 tw*t did & B-to-B your tyres... tarmac tastes nasty!

B*W dealers apparently stock black rubber patches/pads which you stick on at the vulnerable points. Haven't actually got any yet but confirmed with a dealer (Sawbridgeworth) they are a stockitem about £50.
I believe I saw them on City Slicker's bike and they looked good.

Thanks chaps ....

.... I'll start with Autoglym and work my way up. Useful things, panniers: stop the bike grounding whenever I drop it.

I wouldn't usually worry, but a mate commented the other day that they were making my bike look ratty and as its only 6 months old I started to feel guilty ....

Fitted these rubbers guards on mine and after 6 yrs and 3 GS's,the panniers are still perfect.
Bought them in Germany and cost about £30 - bound to be double that in UK
