cleaning textile motorcycle clothing

This is a real problem now that Streetguard 3 has come out in pretty-boy light grey and orange- which I brought and I bike 100 miles every day. Ive washed mine twice since Christmas because they looked so shite and I was turning up looking like a pikey to meetings. Nickwax TX, 30, 40 and 50 degree wash still doesnt make them clean- Im gonna pre-treat with a small scrubbing brush and some swarfega next time, but my message to you all is stay away from the fancy new colours!

Another vote for the Nikwax products, just done my gear in preparation for the Dragon Rally, cleaned up nicely and water just runs off.

Use the same stuff on Goretex walking gear as well with same success

It's alright saying 'leave it, it shows you use it'....but Rukka recommend (infect I think it's part of the warranty conditions??) that their goretex suits are washed every six months.....it's certainly what I was advised when I bought mine...

....the reason, I was told, is that the goretex material needs to 'breathe' and washing removes the dirt which blocks the 'pores' and allows the goretex to work efficiently.

Might be bs...but that's what I was told! :nenau

Nikwax is your answer! :thumb2

Dont need shitie appearance to show I use my bike- just see me on it in this weather and those that dont, dont matter. Seriously though- cleaning textile suits is clearly a big issue. I looked at mine hanging up drippin wet afer 2 goes in the washing machine last night and its still looks rough. I like the vim n vgour coment- but doubt BMW would..come warantee claim.
Same issue with the ally panniers on my GSA- salt stained and will be despuite being washed each weekend and WD40'd

The white/grey/orange isnt so 'Pat looks a pretty boy' it was done becsue a magistrate commented while I was filling up last year that my clothing, in her opinion, wasnt very bright- she had been following me for some miles. The Streetguard 3 has a BIG grey panel on the back which is refeflective.

BMW said...oh....have you tried soaking it? No, I havent- but I might have a go !

It tells you on the nixwash stuff to treat any stains with neat nixwash or whatever its called BEFORE putting it in washer , IMHO you should give it a good scrub with neat wotsit before popping it in the machine .
on a delicates 30deg wash dont u know !:rob
