OK chaps heres one for you!!!

The engine I brought secondhand has finally turned up. The military movers sent it on a world tour before finally making it's way to me :thumb

I no longer need this lump so am trying to flog it over here rather than bring it back home.

The outer casing needs a bloody good clean as there is crap/road debris caked into the fins on the cylinders.

What's the best stuff to use and any top tips or tools for getting right in amongst the fins etc.

Cheers and have a nice day.

If it`s horrendously bad it may need steam cleaning.

The Tarka process would start with a good soak in Gunk or Jizer overnight.

Then spray the soaked area with WD40 or a penetrating/dismantling oil and leave for an hour or so.

Agitate the crap with a combination of dish brushes and a long straight wallpaper brush which will get between the fins nicely.

Use the likes of Auto Glym Moto Clean or Muc-Off type cleaning sprays in a small area at a time and further agitate with the brushes.

Hose off.

Smaller areas can be dealt with by applying paraffin and WD40,then the brushes and cleaning sprays.

Loads of mucky fun !!

Wear rubber gloves while doing this job.

If you are in the military out there have a word with either MT or the GEF section (RAF). They should have a steam cleaner and 'engine wash' which should sort it out.

eng clean

U could do what i did for same reasons.Strip barrels etc and shot/bead blast them, and wire brush attachment on a drill for main casings.
