Which is exactly why Touratech offer a special "hard part" for the toast lifting plate, together with stronger springs and a carbon-fibre cover.

Not so much Oil as Grease required for these. Various blends of Hydrogenated vegetable oils are available, the best performance is probably gained by using those made from Olive Oil, especially a good quality Greek variety. Though personally I prefer the original churned cow juice...
