Closed Passes

We were there last week and the Susten / Furka and Grimsel were closed quite low down. Speaking to them then they said there was still 9m of snow.

I've been twice before during the first week of June and they have been open so was a bit disapointed but that's weather for you:comfort

This is after a few hot weeks too so it goes to show how much snow has fallen this year.

OK, I'm late to this thread, and they are all likely open by now, but I had a great time mid-may despite several of them supposedly being closed. I crossed a fair few "closed" passes in my three weeks, and the only big disappointment was the Petit St Bernard, which wrecked a 150 mile circuit of Mont Blanc, and which I only discovered after paying my 22 Euro to get through the tunnel (so had to pay it again to come back).

It was actually great being up there past the signs closing them, having the whole pass to myself.

Crossed the Timmelsjoch on 6th June the day it opened (closed going on the trip)

This was on the way back from Croatia, Mugello Moto GP etc etc, temp range from 7 degrees on the Ti.mmelsjoch to 37 degrees in Italy, 3,500 miles, 17 days.

Got stuck on the Fluela pass on Sat 6th June, had to abandon the bikes.

Did the Stelvio East to West on the Sunday, snowing at the top but still open.

Absolutely amazing ride down the west side to Bormio and Livigno.
