after a run was cleaning my aux lights but the bottom of the cloth touched the header pipe and burnt onto it leaving a hard mess which is proving impossible to remove - any ideas? i've tried brushing, washing, petrol, wonder wheels ????

Angle grinder? :D

On a serious note I did similar on my exhaust headers on the 1200, so I warmed them up again and scraped it off, when cold WD40 removed the rest.

If it was a plasticised type cloth like a Jey Cloth then try using a craft knife blade on it while its cold to scrape it off.

Or use a hot air gun to get it slightly soft and 'peel' it off.

On stainless headers you can use Autosol and a dish scourer pad.

Mix it 50/50 with crushed walnut shells for really tenaciously burnt on synthetic textiles.
