Slight, but long term niggles with my bike.
Can anyone answer this . .

Re Re-assembly of the flywheel/ "clutch housing cover" and pressure plate.
What would happen if these three parts were rebuilt in such a way that they formed an unbalanced unit ? (ie, not replaced as per when the bike left the factory.)

Would it be obvious re any noise and vibration ?
would the bike shake itself to bits ??

Thanks all.

They are supposedly balanced at the factory, but that doesn't mean it will be wildly out if not assembled in the same position.

There should be a white (probably feint yellow/grey by now) alignment mark on each component, can you see anything ?.

Failing that - suck it and see :nenau.

Ive a deep rumbling from that area of the bike.
Everything has been checked and double checked, but to no avail.

Its only recently that I found out that the clutch parts should go back in the "correct" place after rebuild.

Going back into last year, I had to strip out the clutch and rebuild quickly.
The parts were pretty much thrown back in the bike (with a possibility that they werent in exactly the same place as before)

The bike certainly runs sweet enough but Im kinda thinking that the noise may be from a rushed rebuild, and the clutch parts unbalanced.
(Im not saying they are in the wrong "place", but there is always that slight chance)

I do recall at the time that there was no paint marks on any parts.

That leads to another question . .
. . without paint marks on used parts, how would one know where to place the 3 main clutch parts ? (Presuming the heavier "areas" need to be 120 degrees apart) ???

DIY before taking apart :augie

Paint brush / paint

Thick tip felt pen

Paint marker (liquid fast dry paint in a felt pen)

Should make no difference at all.
If you buy a replacement clutch how is that balanced to your bike?

Is that . .

On the road with the clutch fully engaged.

at tickover in neutral.

Stationary, in gear with the clutch dis-engaged.

??? :nenau

Sounds more like clutch splines or gearbox input shaft roller bearing to me.

Has the gearbox been checked-over at all (what's the mileage) ??

Regarding the balancing of replacement clutch parts . .

I've never heard of anyone balancing the assembly before fitting. I think one would have to remove the flywheel ( - the crank can drop, resulting in a full engine re-build) and balance it as a complete unit.

I think the problem lies elsewhere .
