update
have striped it cleaned greased and adjusted. its just the same quiet when lever pulled in. so what is the score with the gear box as regard to the noise.

As i said, it's not the thrust piston.

I'll repeat what i said - lot's of airheads make the noise. it's the inputshaft/layshaft bearings -But don't worry about it. It doesn't mean they'll fail.

nice one cheers steptoe think i need to meet a few other 100gs to see whats normal my dad has had a few r100s that was 10 years ago i rode them but cant remember much more than setting car alarms off with them will hopefuly get to the alton meet on weds so mabee i will meet one or 2. Bm

All 6 or 7 of my boxers have done this noisy thing re gearbox etc.Im lead to believe pulling the clutch in just takes up any backlash in the gears.
Never been a problem (and earplugs will fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
