Clutch Slip

Was riding into work yesterday when I found that my clutch was slipping badly On closer eaxamination I found that the hand guard had moved upwards causing it to reamain partially on. I phoned BMW and they advised me to tighten down the bar ends, will this stop the problem from happening again or is there a better fix?

In my experience it helps a little but they tend to move again with time. I glance at the lever ends before I start the bike as a habit now and give the hand guards a nudge if required.
