Change of clutch on my 3 year old, 27,000 odd miles GS
Brilliant work from BMG :thumb2

It seems the wear was aggravated by the lack of lubricant on the splines... don't beemers grease those things before assembling them:nenau :augie
I just heard a new sound, more of a tell-tale rattle and thought it might have been the pushrod...
If you look at the pointy centre splines, these should be square....
That was what the rattling was all about. It would seem that some of the weight saving on the 1200 came from the clutch :blast

...will you look at that corrosion... for a bike that's mothered and garaged, it really is not very impressive. Doesn't it make you wonder what condition yours is in? ... :hide Check for that rattle!

Brian did a sterling job and I can heartily, again, recommend him.
Excellent work and attention to detail.:bow

Work in progress

Not exactly a road-side repair this clutch change business....

IIRC isn't that something that sometimes comes up on 1150's as well :nenau

Was just the clutch replaced or did he have to replace the shaft - and just out of interest, what kind of money are we talking about?

Great piccie of the rear of the bike :thumb2

Ottom.

Yes same-o same-o on the 1150's but having seen both clutches, the 1150 is bigger/wider/better built IMHO.
The 1200 was made simpler and lighter - not the best of choices as where to save weight and quality from IMHO :blast
Price depends on what u need to have done. Check with Brian-
He's really good at what he does- :thumb2
Brian took the piccies of work in progress for me, kept the parts, explained what had gone wrong, compared my clutch to that of an 1150 etc-
(and for the 1150 owners- yes, yours is tougher! but mine is still faster!!! :thumb2)

Very knowledgeable man and one who does not mind sharing it with you.
Makes a refreshing change !
