Twin spark 1200 engine. Experiencing symptoms of coil failure (spluttering on hard acceleration).
So I need to check my coils.
I shall be disconnecting each coil in turn to locate the faulty one (assuming both sets fire at all revs?) - is it safe (for the electronics etc) to disconnect the coil at the little clip on the head of coil, or is it best to pull the whole thing off the plug and leave connected?
I have read that the coil should be "grounded" during this operation - is it necessary? and how would I go about this?

Ta very muchly............

Ask the experts..

Personally I cannot say, but when I had a recent techy problem with my 1150 gave Blue Bell a ring and they got one of their nice mechanics to give me a call back when they were free too, and talked through the issue or your local dealers..

Couldn't find a damaged coil, so as Clive suggested - 4 new plugs and bikes running sweet :D Ta
