Cold Heated Jacket that hates Sat Nav

Dear All wondered if any of you had any ideas?

2007 R1200GS seems to work fine. Sat Nav comes on fine at startup. Starcom works fine with Satnav and Ipod.

Sat nav plugged into power socket just under steering yoke.

Using a splitter lead from Motorrad Concepts to "power up" auxiliary socket as well as Starcom.

Feeling a bit chilly so treated myself to a Gerbing heated jacket.

I had never tried the auxiliary socket before doing my starcom etc.

When I plug in the Gerbing it not only doesn't work but for some reason I lose power to the sat nav.

Doesn't make any odds whether the sat nav is powered up first and I then plug the Gerbing in it still goes off when the gerbing is plugged in.

Once I take the Gerbing out the sat nav does not restart until I restart the bike.

Being a methodical sort I have taken the Starcom element of the system out ie removed the splitter lead and replugged the original Canbus plug into the auxiliary socket. Sadly no impact at all. Sat nav still goes off when Gerbing is plugged in.

I suppose its possible that the Gerbing is faulty but it seems unlikely. I get the same effect iwth just the Gerbing lead anyway ie no Sat Nav.

I'm baffled. Anybody got any insights? If not, I'm going to have to take it to the Dealer next week. Any BMW bike genius auto electricians live near Cambridge who might be able to help?

All help gratefully recieved as cold weather looms and I still might get lost!

could be you need extra power sockets? if you have more than one item taking power from just one socket,maybe there it not enough power going in to run both?? things,...hel'if I know boy....

likely too much current draw... does the vest say how many amps or watts it is?

The Gerbing heated vests need to be connected straight from the battery, otherwise the canbus will shut off (too much current for the accessory socket). And if you have that vest, I hope for your sake that you have bought the controler as well (or you will burn up!)

In your case the canbus will release that connection when starting the bike up. It is a safety measure.

"Do you run a heated vest same time as your Sat Nav"

I do not have a vest just to let you know, sounds like a power supply thing re ya prob??? but I am no tech'e.

I run 2 heated jackets [not vests] from an extra socket in a fused line straight to the battery, which I also use for trickle charging.

So thats head lights on, heated grips on,GPS on,autocom on, 2 heated jackets on and ABS still stays armed and dont have any problems, all this on a so called crap 04 1200.

Had the same bother. Socket wired direct to the battery - with an inline fuse - will give you sat nav and a heated vest (waistcoat or whatever)

Same experience here.

Gerbing vest/inner jacket alledgedy draws too much power for the CanBus system and it shuts off the aux sockets - just like it does with the Optimate charger and any other non-BMW branded product that you may wish to mix with the bike.

Wire it all direct to the battery and find a little rubber johnnies to pop on the end of the leads when not in use.

P.S. I agree with ECM - get yourself the Gerbing controller to save that 'boil-in-the-bag' experience.
