My left hand is still cold at this time of the year even with my heated grips on full, are these spoilers that fit on top of the hand protectors any good ?

Why not...

...make your own?

Just need a couple of bits of fairly stiff plastic cut to shape, and then mount using self-tappers or small nuts and bolts.

Easy to remove when the weather improves next July.

Steve.

If you do high milage winter riding, the muffs are the way to go.Unless you want to faff about with heated gloves.

I've just got the new Touratech Catalogue. TT now do spoilers to fit the standard BMW handguards, black only, at about £16 per pair. Out of stock at Bracken at the moment, I'll let you know what they look like when they arrive....

Part No is 040-1701

Might try the muffs !

Thanx Mike please post pics when you get hold of some........(if poss)..

Thinking about fitting the Oxford handlebar muffs, they seem to fit OK as seen on MiGSel`s site.........

Top site by the way MigSel.......like the pics of the Gorges du Verdon........brings back memories of 2001 !

The muffs are great now, but mind you, they don't fit like that right away. It does take some time and work to get them to fit like this.
Greetings,

cold left hand

I have a theory

After many winters of riding, my fingers of my left hand always got very cold, as they were always on the clutch lever, I solved the problem by fitting a carbon fibre clutch lever to my XT

Bandit,

did it work? Why were your fingers always on the clutch lever? I find that, even with heated grips, my left hand is always colder, I put this down to 2 things:

1. You don't have to grip the left handlebar to overcome the throttle spring, so the heating element isn't as effective.

2. The plastic liner on the throttle side handgrip provides better heat transfer to the grip.

Both of these ideas might be bollox, but they're the best theories I can come up with!

Scarver.

Last summer I felt that the left hand was colder than the right.
On my Scarver and on the driving school Scarver.
And I did not hold my fingers on the cluth lever all the time.
The left side was colder.
The Scarver have heated grips originally from the factory in Norway.

A friend of mine has a theory:
Right handed people have warmer right hands.
Left handed people have warmer left hands.
Is any of you left handed?:) :)

For the muffs, take a look << HERE >>

1. The first picture shows the plastic edge, that originally has even width from left to right. I cut the seam open and turned the opening towards me, sort of.

2. Second pic shows the hole for the mirror. I just cut a hole, burned the edges with a lighter and sewed around the edges so it doesn't unravel.

3. Third pic: hole for the bolt, same thing.

4. Last pic: on the right, the opening normally closes with the press fasteners that you can see (2 at the bottom, you can see only one of the two on top). But then the opening is too small to reach the buttons. So I made the opening bigger with a strip sewed on both ends.

It all took a while, but the result is great. Nothing is in the way, I can grab the handlebars without looking and I can reach all buttons. My hands are never cold (grip heating on 1 with -8°C) and my gloves stay dry.

Good luck,
Michel

MiGSel,

My cold hands problem is history: handlebar muffs from Oxford Products!

I installed those muffs last weekend; they fit over the (original)
BMW-handguards. Just had to make some holes for the mirrors,
and replace the bolts for the handlebar-end weights for they are
1 time use only...
For the first time in 19 winters I had warm hands last week after a 100+ km ride

Great Tip Michel, thanks!

Cold left hand

There maybe an easy answer to this, if its like my other bikes the heat loss is thru the metal handlebar. On the right hand grip the heater is insulated by the throttle twist grip tube. If poss remove LH grip and insulate underneath with tape etc
