Off to the Vosges shortly. I normally shun cities and towns but to heep the wife sweet I'm looking at including a trip into Colmar old town. We'll be on bikes but I have no idea what the setup is for parking bikes in Colmar. Are we OK to just sling them on a wide bit of pavement/bicycle parking, or is that sort of behaviour inviting a ticket nowadays?

Sling your bikes on any bit of pavement within reason and you’ll be fine, as will be the Frenchies.

We (@Arsey, @Stevie4scoops, @Skid06 @rjsmith26 and Co) have always parked them on any large bit of pavement, and never had any issues, passing comments, nor gendarmes getting involved. Be sure to lock the bikes to something imovable in a big city.

Fixed.

I was in Colmar with @Stevie4scoops 5 days ago. We stayed in an apartment on Parc Du Champ de Mars. Parking was on street and pavement space was limited, and even more limited in having immobile objects to lock to. (We did 3 laps of the square looking for a KTM 1290 with a bald rear tyre but failed @Arsey @EVskiy ) Instead we locked up with disk lock on both bikes and lite lock on each bike to the other bike. Add and old BMW E36 car cover that scoops had with him and jobs a good un!WhatsApp Image 2025-09-05 at 21.57.56.jpegWhatsApp Image 2025-09-05 at 21.57.57.jpeg

Thanks for all the intel. Soz, should have been more specific - we're akshly staying outside town so I dont need overnight parking in Colmar, just the daytime. Sounds like slinging the bikes on a suitable bit of pavement should do the trick!

If nervous, about getting a pavement ticket then where we parked on the square was easy and pay with an app (we paid for a couple of hours before the overnight free kicked in) and cost under a quid).

Thanks all for the suggestions. We whipped into Colmar today and found several dedicated moto bays on the Bd du Champ de Mars, opposite Square Hansi. Didnt bother with the app, just paid at the adjacent machine using a card. Have added a photo showing the rates for motos.
