Horses for courses I suppose I always liked the looked of 650GS (not ridden the Dakar) and really wanted to like riding it, the problem is that I do way more on road than off road and that 650 motor (no matter how cool it looks) just isn't powerful enough and there's no way I could keep up with sportsters riding one.

I remember when I first got on the 650 though, thinking how much lighter and better off road than the 1100 it was.

Had my 03 dakar serviced at SLM in Caterham 2 weeks ago.
6000 mile service = £240 or there abouts. £190 was labour.
No parts replaced, just oil and filters. New MZ4 tyres from Guidford Tyre services = £189/pair incl fit. Road tyres a treat - grips like hell and slightly quieter than Sahara's I got the bike with.

They charged me £10 for the Rockster loan bike I used, but I did put 200 miles onto it's clock so that's OK.

On the seat issue: Seat to soft for long rides. I only weigh 75kg but after 15 miles it feels asif the seat is swallowing my arse. does anyone know if the higer seat is harder?

Because I do long distances over weekends and lots of motorway to and from work I am changing up to a 1200GS end of July. I found the dakar to be fine around 70 miles/h, but not two-up.
BMW tank bag works well to lean agains thereby lowering wind resistance.
