orderred bike, cant wait :o)

I was considering the KTM 950 and the GS 1150 Adv, but rulled the KTM out as most of my riding will be road work, with the odd venture down green lanes and the KTM dealer network is not the best going. In my opinion having riden the 950 and the GS, the BM is better suited to road work and touring. The only issue was weight when manouvering the bike at standstill. Concerning reliabillity, it seem that some are ok and others are unlucky.

Initially the cost was a big point, as the Adv was going to cost more than the new bike (although I`m sure I could of got a reasonable discount on the Adv), as it turned out, the new bike is almost as much when specked up ( heated grips, wire wheels etc) so I had to dig deep to find the extra.

It came down to what the new bike would be like to ride and own. Well I do believe the new bike will be a big improvement and I do like the look of it, apart from the silencer, which will probably get replaced in time anyway. As for reliabillity, I am prepared to take the chance, as even the old Adv could still give problems if your unlucky.

My spec is:
Standard bike (ABS ,immobilliser, hand guards and pannier rails)
Heated grips
Wire wheels

Rock Red
Grey side pods
Black seat

Total £9685 on the road.

expecting delivery mid april.

I dont have to finalise the spec until first thing monday morning, so what do people think concerning the wire wheels against the alloys. Its not the off road abillity that concerns me really, its more aesthetics.

What are your opinions on this?

Regards
Paul

April delivery

never had a GS before, but had a go on an adventurer and liked it, thought the 1200 would be a better bike for similar money.

Hey, all you doubters out there, you aint seen it or ridden it yet ! give BM the benefit ! you never know, you might be joining me in the party :beerjug:

wish I was one of the lucky ones - alas - funding does not currently stretch to the necessary number of drink vouchers.

And when I ask for a "price to change" I can already hear the salesman sucking through his teeth as he eyes my completely unsaleable 1150GS which he will do me the courtesy of "taking off my hands" for a couple of grand - "and I'm doing you a favour there" etc. etc.

I'll wait. Only had my 1150 for 8 months anyway.

On the subject of wheels I would be tempted to save the £250 odd quid the wire wheels cost and stick with the alloys. They'll do the occasional bit of off-road which if I'm totally honest is the only off-road I'm ever likely to do. Also easier to keep clean.

Me

Red/Black ally wheels mid march, reading all the various comments how do most of the people on this board ever buy anything new. Don't think I have ever owned anything that hasn't gone wrong at some stage. Top of the range sony tele stopped working day after I bought it. So what just get it mended or changed and get on with life, jeez.

ordered one today

Ordered a Sahara yellow one black panels mag wheels grips and engine bars for june
at last all the things I need 100 hp easy clean wheels lighter big luggage abs blah blah,
very happy with my GS ADV will have to be bloody good to repace it but I am confident anybody want to by mine in June?

Haven't ordered one but I have been procrastinatnig about buying a bike in Europe and keeping it there as I visit often enough to justify it (when I say Europe this essentially means buying and storing in the UK).

Was looking at FJR or Multistrada or something but the new GS has got my attention and it might be what I need. Plus, I sold my GSA a few months ago over here and miss it something fierce.

My Wife ordered one this Morning for March/April delivery

Yellow with Grey Side Panels
Low Black seat
ABS
Heated Grips
Handguards
Alarm
Engine guards
Alloy Wheels

Put my deposit down in November and hopefully getting one of the first, if all goes to plan it will be:-

Blue, grey,black
heated grips
panniers

Still if i don't like it any of you out there can offer £10,500 and i might consider parting with my pride and joy.

Seriously though i have not run a BM before other than a 40min ride on a GS, it was the best fun i had had on a bike since i was a spotty teenager, makes all the superbikes i've had seem ridiculous, if the new one is anything like it or better then all will be alright with the world.

£11,000

Paul, having ridden with wire wheels on all of my BMW's I recently rode a converted 1100GS with 5 spoked alloy wheels.

To put it bluntly there isn't much difference at all. However there is a difference with softness of ride. The wire spokes make for a nice soft ride compared to the rather stiff/solid alloy wheels.

A close friend with a 1978 R100RS recently changed his alloy wheels over for spoked ones and couldn't believe just how softer on his hands the wire wheels were. He had to change his wheels as the front one was cracking and the rear had tiny fatigue like stress cracks after about 200,000 Klm's.

My friend with the 1100GS and I swapped bikes four times over a days ride and we both noticed that the solid wheels were really harder on the arms as the suspension seemed to tell us of every little bump and ripple, whereas my standard 1100GS was really softer. Other people have mentioned this same thing to me before but my mate and I decided to test it out after he had changed his wheels.

If you were on billiard smooth roads you won't notice a thing but as soon as the roads become bumpy it will be there. It isn't a bad thing, it's just harsher!

I myself, if I decide to eventually upgrade, will be geting wire spoked wheels.

Mick.

Can I ask a question of the 'orderee's'.........

When you've stated the colour it seems as its the option of xxxx and GREY..... I've not seen a brochure or extras list etc etc for the 1200 yet, but is there an "and GREY bits to be painted in the same colour as the tank" option? as IHMO that would be worth paying.............

Amazing

Schnauzer, just been playing with photoshop around the same idea. Got rid of the silver bit and changed it to black. What do you think.
