I've been the happy owner of a Triumph Sprint ST 1050 ABS (3rd one on the road in The Netherlands) for the last 3 years, and have covered 55.000km in that period.

But lately my knees and wrists are starting to kill me, and as I've always been very interested in the GS, I'm now looking at a R1200GS (maybe the Adventure). Especially when I look at the luggage options, as the factory stuff from Triumph is crap/way too small...

Now I see that the gas tank is fairly small on the GS (20l where 4l is the reserve), what is the millage with "fresh" driving style, on the Sprint I get around 250-350km while touring (mixed roads). What would the GS do on a tank?

Another thing, I've read the horror stories about the power assisted breaks, would a 2nd hand 2006/2007 (still close to new price), be a better buy than a 08 which, as far as I can understand, have had the power assisted breaks removed (??) ?

Otherwise I'm looking forward to try one to make up my mind...

Thanks.

Casper - you should get 210 miles out of the standard tank.

The power assisted braked are also fine - but a few breakdown's too :augie

Hi Casper :thumb Welcome to UKGSer...

I can only speak for the 1150 with respect to mileage.. I've got a standard sized tank on an '03 Adventure, and will see 200 miles before needing a fill up... and unless you plan to go around the world or to places where fuel is scarce thats ample... went down to Garmsich last year and was happy to stop and refuel after around 100-120 miles... a leg stretch and a coffee;)

I'm getting 275-295 miles per tank on my 08 GSA depending on how 'spirited' the riding is. :bounce1

I settled on a 07 GS, with 6500km on the clock. With the money they offered for the Sprint a new one was out of the picture, as I wanted the computer, abs, heated hand grips, and then it would have gotten too expensive.

Good choice :clap
You will be very unlucky to get less than 250kms per tank full unless it leaks :D Typically you will get 300km+, just make sure you fill it up properly and know how much fuel you have left when the trip computer tells you it's empty. It probably isn't but best take a litre of fuel with you just in case ;)
