So I have some work in Vegas over the next couple of weeks and am hoping to tag a week of vacation on the end.
I know some people here have done tours around the Vegas area, and maybe even some of our State-side cousins can comment?

Basically I have six riding days out of Vegas, so I intend to rent a harley and take off. This is the plan:

  1. Day 1 Vegas to Zion National Park (166 miles)
  2. Day 2 Zion to Capitol Reef Nat Park via Bryce Canyon (208 miles)
  3. Day 3 Capitol Reef to Monument Valley via Glen Canyon (210 miles)
  4. Day 4 Monument Valley to Grand Canyon South Rim (158 miles)
  5. Day 5 Grand Canyon to Kingman via Historic Route 66 (184 miles)
  6. Day 6 Kingman to Vegas via Hoover Dam (105 miles)
    Total 1038 Miles

I plan on staying in cheap-ish motels in smaller towns near the sites listed, rather than at the sites to save some $$$. I wasn't going to book, you think I'll find accomodation OK on the spur of the moment?

I think its fairly reasonable mileage (without really knowing the road conditions, or haven riden a Harley before), does it sound OK? I wanted to make fairly short days to give plenty time for stops and photos.

Weather wise it doesn't look blazingly hot at the moment, but I guess it will get warmer in the next couple of weeks. Average temperature seems to be around mid-20 celcius in June, maybe up to 30 on a hot day. So I figure my regular Hein Gericke textile suit will do the job (with all the vents open!), its not a lot warmer than that hot spell we had here a couple of weeks ago.

What do you think?

Sounds brilliant! - my brother in law did more or less the same trip - but started in Phoenix and did a round trip via Santa Fe. - So, you could do more mileage if you fancied it.

I think that accommodation was very easy to find as well.

It was VERY hot!

G'luck and look forward to seeing your pictures!

I'm out there at the moment. Though you may struggle to find accomodation in the parks, there are plenty of cheapish motels outside them. From the Grand canyon there are plenty of Motels in Flagstaff & from there, you could head down to Sedona before cutting North to Kingman.

The weater is very unpredicable at the moment, there was snow @ the Grand Canyon last week but here in 29 Palms it is currently 100f.

I am wearing my Rukka APR gear with the goretex liners removed, but have a two piece HG waterproof which is invaluable when its chilly in the morning.

We have encountered Snow, hail, rain, strong side winds, fog, low cloud, temps from 36f-108f- brilliant.

Currently riding a Goldwing which is the comfiest bike I have ever been on, and has been perfect over the last two weeks (3000 miles).

Anything else you want to know, ask quick I may not have access to the internet after today.

Looks a good route and you`ll have no problem in fiding accomodation apart from in the Parks as Baz suggests.

One place I would advise anyone to go is Canyon de Chelley which is a sacred place for the Navajo Indians. It`s truly stunning and is in sharp contrast to the Grand Canyon.

It`s South Easy of Monument and around 3 hours ride. You can ride across the prairie from there to the Grand Canyon or go via Flagstaff. It`s quite a big mileage but unlike here 60mph means 60 miles per hour.

Monument is superb and you can ride around the park although it`s a bit bumpy on a HD. It`s approx 17 miles round and much better than a 4 wheel drive tour!!

You`ll have a great time.

Baz, glad the trip is going great:thumb
