I have spent the last few months building up a pretty good toolkit for my gs. Since i am mostly confined to southern uk due to a little baby, i thought my efforts were wasted. Not so. During recent mot, the headlight adjuster fell to bits (common fault?). The technician says that'll take a few hours to fix and we'll have to charge labour or a new headlight is 200 odd quid. No thanks. So out comes shiny tool kit and i have the whole lot stripped and repaired out the front of MOT forecourt. (Ball and cup of adjuster had seperated) Straight back in and passed (with les wassall HID by the way - get some!) Well chuffed. Toolkit probably cost more than 2 hrs labour but it has its next outing tomorrow to fit a zumo and autocom. Fits nicely with small footpump in tankbag using kreiga toolroll.

You should have seen the toolkit I carried on the Airhead :eek

Still, good you were able to fix it yourself always satisfying :thumb2

Joy unbounded.

You're always so happy Wapping!

What socket ratchet you using, the ones I have are too long? This looks a good one too but mightn't have the torque...

Wow ! This is a massive amount of tools.... Do you carry those packs all the time, or just in longer trips? I can see the point of the latter, like a 3000k mile round europe trip, but on a 20mile daily commute, I d rather frankly break down, go for a beer while waiting for recovery and let them take the bike and dump it to the shop (rather than getting my hands dirty that is)...

I also have the same mentality in long runs (Morocco, europe etc) as GSs of late tend to fail from either electronic issues ( BUS, FPC and a myriad other) caused by vibes, dust, water and off road craches mostly. I have also read/heard of fried batteries due to electrical shorts. Bottom line, tyre repair kits, cable ties and assorted handy stuff is great, but we are mostly likely to get immobilised by something we cannot repair by the roadside...

I thus choose to ride with the following kit:

FAST foamy tyre gunk
2 credit cards & 300 US dollars (Eur when in eastern europe)
gaffa tape (always black)
gum
ciggies & lighter
swimming trunks & flip flops
shiny marbles for the sub saharan dudes that stop you occassionaly..

peace & love to all
