My friend lent me a compressor, I plugged into the aux socket on my R1200GSA 2008. It ran fine until connected to the tyre (I guess it wants more current at this point), then the socket switched off and I couldn't use it. Has anybody else had this issue or know a way I can use a compressor with the bike ? I do have an Optimate lead connected, I could maybe use this to power it instead ?

Wire an outlet socket direct to battery. You can use it for Optimate float charging and higher power items like the compressor.

Dealer will charge about £130 for supply and fit but it is easy enough and cheaper to do yourself.

I can buy a cable for the Optimate lead with cigarette lighter so yes this is probably the best bet. I think it has 7.5 amp fuse in so that should be sufficient I guess.

7.5 amps would be marginal........I'd expect a compressor to draw 10 or so amps under load.

Most cabling for this sort of thing would be 17+ amp, so I'd stick a 15a fuse in :)
