What are my best options for tyres somewhere between Pirelli MT21 and Metzeler Saharas?

I intend to use my Xchallenge more this year for general running around, so i think the current MT21s will wear pretty quick, but i could do with something that will still be reasonably capable off road.

What do the knowledgeable think.

If you are going any further off road than smooth gravel tracks I would go for the Mitas E-09 over the TKC, in fact I would go for it regardless. Cheaper, probably equal on road, better of road, oh and it's cheaper.

I currently have a bridgestone gritty ed-03 on the front. a bit more off-road than the E-09 but still behaving and getting good miles on the road.

I have ridden with a TKC front and it turned into a ski at the merest sniff of damp soil never mind mud. That was enough for me, never again.

The Mitas EO9 Dakar Reinforced is the way forward for gravel use, but I think the OP is looking for what the TKC has to offer.

T.

You sound like you know the local ground conditions better than me. For my riding I wouldn't touch them.

If it is any help with your decision,
I have a TKC (Fitted) and an MT-09 (going to fit for a Portugal trip)

The block depth looks to be about the same, but the blocks are bigger area wise on the TKC. Therefore I would suspect that the TKC may be less prone to Thorn punctures than the Mitas (More thick rubber over more of the tyre), but the Mitas looks like it would grip better on grass/mud.

Cheers,

Piggers
