Is it suitable to connect both ends of the Autocom direct to the battery of the 1150GS (I have fitted a 5A fuse on the + lead).
Or is it necessary to go through the fuse box - then which one to use?
Also there is a 'spare' sort of plug on the right hand side, just beneath the rider seat, does anyone knows about this one?:nenau
Thanks for your help/advices
Henry

If the socket under the seat looks like a mini cigarette lighter socket it will be the BMW 12VDC auxillary you can but plugs from any BMW supplier right angled or straight. If you have a meter just check my one was connected direct to the battery I can only asume it is fused. I also use it to plug in my charger.

Hope this is helpfull.:thumb
I ordered my plugs from Motorworks they also have sockets it's worth checking the site out.

If the Autocom is connected direct to the battery, it will always be on and always be drawing current. If the bike's stood over any length of time, the battery will go flat. Much better to put it through an ignition switched circuit somewhere. If you do a search, instructions on how to do it'll have been posted at least a few dozen times.

In our instruction manuals it does state not to wire direct to the battery due the system always being live.

On an 1150 GS depending on the year we wire into the green and black wire that feed the inline brake connector if its running on 12v's. The later models only run 3.5v.

So on the later models we wire straight into the fuse box wiring loom via the thick green and black wire, this is a nice clean 12v source which turns on and off with the ignition.

We use an eyelet connector and use one of the 4mm alan bolts that hold the riders seat bracket in place to the frame.

This wiring is tried and tested and is the only power sources we recommend for the 1150's

you mean to connect to the earth?

is it possible to use this even on a 2000 model?

Thank you all for your replies, I'll try it over the w/e!

Ooops well spotted, yeah to connect the earth lol.

I would say on a 2000 model the inline brake connector will be 12v, try the lead first with a circuit tester first. If it is bingo its an easier fit.

thanks Rich
I've been to the other leads you recommended as well,
i feel a bit stupid for asking a question that has already been answered...
but better ask twice
cheers

I used a connector that utilised the Optimate charger lead on my Aprilia Caponord and it worked fine. Plug the Autocom in when you need it and unplug and store when you don't.
