Our group discussions about next year's trip to Spain has raised the possibilty of putting six or seven bikes in a container and shipping them to northen Spain. We would follow them on cheap flights. Has anyone done this and could they give some feedback? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you are only travelling from the UK I wouldn't bother.

If you containerise the bikes you will have all the cost of shipping, paperwork, packing, insurance, etc.
Do you think this would be cheaper and easier than taking the ferry.
If a bike or bikes are damaged in transit, what do you do about it in Spain?
Do you go to Spain and hope the container turns up in time?
Do you go after the container and pay the storage charges?

If you really want to try it, I can recommend a Freight Agent that we use to ship containers worldwide.
PM me and I will give you their details and you can discuss it further.

Dave,

Just booked Portsmouth to Santander with Brittany ferries, including cabin, £240 for return journey next April.

Seems pretty good value and no hassle at all as described above.

We have already done this trip both on the ferry from Portsmouth to Spain and overland through France. Some of the group are short of holiday time and want to spend their biking days in the Pyrennes without the delays of getting there. Possible savings on fuel and tyres have also been mentioned.
Personally, I think that riding there is all part of the holiday - but a group's needs may be different.

Spent this weekend preparing a boat for container transport to Cyprus the container, 20' long, cost £800 delivered from Southampton to a port in Cyprus

Not bad I thought :nenau
