I am new here and maybe this has been covered "ad nauseum" but has every 1150 gs got the same telltale rust marks. The powder coating on the front forks and yoke does not seem to last either. Are these just things to live with or has bmw been approached about their quality of finish.I should add that I am still looking, but have been disappointed by the condition of the bikes I have looked at. I am stepping off an Africa Twin which is a lot older than any of the beemers but it has a lot less rust or corosion.

just got mine 2 weeks ago, seems to be a common thing.bought mine from dealer and first time i saw it it was minus the front end cos the brace was away getting powdercoated and the forks spruced up,looks lovely now though

They ll do that sir. Get em to knock a few quid off and do the job yourself with hammerite smooth.
Bm haven't changed a thing, finish on these parts is still crap.

DIY, cheaper and better IMHO (when ya finally get off ya arse to do it :augie )

Strangely, the gearbox and cylinder heads have a much better finish than any Jap bike.

it does'nt happen on the GS1100.:D :D :D
much better QUALITY.

Keep looking and find one that's been well looked after - with a bit of effort, as most likely proved by your Africa Twin, there's no reason for a bike to get tatty. That said considering the cost of Beemers there's definately a few areas where the quality is not what it should be imho but that is true of any bike you wish to name.

Good luck with the search - if you pay up for membership (site sponsorship) you'll be able to keep an eye on the for sale section here ;-)
