Have you had corrosion within the warranty period and did BMW fix it?

I have massive problems with my 2009 GSA and BMW are being stuffy so I need some supporting evidence of them being aware of the issue.

Sympathize with your grievance, but the poll is a tad biased in that there's nowhere to register "no, I haven't had any corrosion problems"

It's a fair point, however whilst I'm delighted that you've not had corrosion issues I'm only interested those who've had them, where it was and whether BMW were decent in handling it.

I'm not looking for confirmation that thousands of other owners have the same problem but whether my reaction to their stalling is reasonable.

Beside I can't seem to find how to edit the poll!

Me too.A poll of only the people who have had corrosion, is not much use is it. I would have voted no also.:thumb

Never had any corrosion on my 2005 GS in 45,000 miles

I hope my 2010 GS is as good.

This is not really a poll , more an enquiry by rdover into BMWs reactions to those amongst us who have had problems and what those problems have been . This may be of limited interest to those lucky ones who have not suffered this problem .

My current 08GSA is the 3rd 1200 I have owned and the first two were no problem but the current bike has engine paint peeling everywhere . It was ACF50'd from new , waxed and silicone sprayed frequently yet by 14 months old corrosion had set in to every casting joint and every penetration through the paint like crash bar attachments , sight glass , brake disc bolts , etc . After a year of beating my head against BMW's wall their stance is that corrosion only occurs if the bike has not been washed correctly . Therefore not their problem . End of .

I found out after SLM were taken over by Vines that at every service (6 in 14 months due to the mileage I do) SLM had been washing the bike down with an acid wash so all the time I spent trying to protect the bike was probably negated by their valeting service . Vines accept no responsibility and I am therefore stuffed .

The only part replaced was the front engine plate 6 months ago as this , according to Vines , is a known issue which they do not have to seek BMW's approval to replace . Any thing else , no chance .

You're right Pierre, I am more interested in how much of a fight I'm going to have with them and 1,000 replies of "not had any problems" is not useful information.

The local BMW dealer is 100% behind my assertion that it is a warranty issue and in fact it was they who flagged up the more serious issues after the last service.

BAsically if it is black then it is fine but grey is corroding including:

oil filler area
gearbox
final drive
diff
rear wheel centre
both cylinder heads
rust at welds on frame

It is corroding in places that can be reached for cleaning but those areas that can't and I only use the green stuff bought from BMW if I use any cleaner at all (water and elbow grease!).
