Hi Folks,
I know there has been a few posts on this already but i am trying to get a feel for the number of people who have had corrosion issues.
Would you please reply to this thread if you have had an issues. Please indicate the model, year, area or corrosion and whether BMW honored the claim or not under warranty.
Thanks in advance.

As you will have seen, there are definitely more than 'a few' posts on the topic of corrosion. Simply entering the word 'corrosion' into Search and limiting it to just the 1200 section brings up 500. Of course these could include anything from corrosion on a battery terminal, to (as it's the 1200 section) corrosion on the Southend pier. There may also be repeats, where one bod replies more than once about corrosion but in different threads, so you will need to do some sifting.
Either way, there are plenty, including one where a bod's bike appears to be dissolving in rust, despite his regular and attentive cleaning. So, let's accept that it's apparently a problem.
Why are you trying to collect the data?
What happens if a bloke says it was rejected as a warranty claim (howls of outrage, possibly) but neglects to tell you that the bike was two years out of warranty when he tried to claim? What would you mark that down as? Fair or unfair on behalf of BuMW? Are you even assessing 'fairness' at all, or just asking if it was fixed under warranty, irrespective of why it might
not have been?
What happens to the list of those that have had no corrosion problems at all, for whatever reasons?
Me? I have owned two 1200's since 2005.
(1) 05 vanilla 1200GS - sold after two years with 22,000 on the clock. No corrosion. Single owner, bought new.
(2) 06 1200GSA - 42,000 miles on the clock. No corrosion. Single owner, bought new.
Both bikes used in all weathers, but not for commuting (I walk to work). Not washed regularly at all. But ALWAYS, washed down with a power hose after winter outings, no matter how short the excursion. It's rare though that I go out for any jaunt of under 200 miles, summer or winter.
