Corrosion?

yes I have similar corrosion on my 6 month old 1200gsa. Pretty poor really!

Yes - dont worry about it. More important is to remove the rubber bung in the filler neck for improved refuelling times.

certainly have! and its gonna be rectified under warranty next week, along with rusty crash bars and paint coming off the frame - although the response to the fuel filler rust was "thats the first one of those we've ever seen sir...."

Every Boxer I've had in the last 10 years has rusted there. (IIRC the Triumph I had for 5 years before that did the same).

I just keep the cap shut. Out of sight, out of mind.

paint gets rubbed off the frame very quickly by boots.

Solve with a bit of silver duct tape. Almost invisible when applied and protects frame.

Something 'bout EU regulations requiring manufacturers to use water based not oil based paints.

The R1200s has a red plastic filler neck - maybe finally they have realised they have a problem.

yep me too bikes 3 months old the paint has worn off on the left
side the frame too

oh yes!, I have corrosion on my crash bars also, just like many GSAs. The dealer said that it was not worth changing them yet because the replacements would do the same!. He said its worth waiting a bit until "they got the quallity right". Im thinking that if I dont make some kind of official complaint soon, BMW way ask why I didnt earlier, and say sorry you left it too long. the bike is a march 06 GSA.
I cant get off the thing, love it!
I have to say, I had a brand new Harley some years ago, the clutch cable wore through the paint on the headstock, the ally went all white and frosty and the crome rims rusted within months, I also had a triumph R3, you could not ride that thing anywhere near rain, the finnish was, how can I say, very dissapointing!

To be fair, last night I rubbed this corrosion off with a duster and some WD40 and squirted some down the hole. Looks like new again. Will keep my eye on it though.

My crash bars appear ok and no paint has rubbed off the frame. Although I did take notice off my feet positioning and my boots don't actually make contact with the frame (personal riding style I guess). The only way this can be avoided is by using frame protectors, otherwise this friction related problem would appear unavoidable

Depends how you have your feet on the pegs i did enduro & never rubbed rhe paint much yet most bikes looked like the metal was pollished, my bmw frame is unmarked because my boots are clear of the frame when riding

No, I don't find filling a problem.

I never run any more than 20-25 litres unless I'm going away
