Corrupt Storage card Help / Advice / Insults?

I have just returned from 3 weeks in the US, and 2 of my 5 storage cards are corrupted. The camera that the pictures were taken on wont recognise them , nor will my other digital SLR, nor the pc or via a card reader.

They are basically buggered. :clap:clap:clap

I have been quoted.....wait for it......£250 per card to retreive the pictures:jes

Anyone in the know or in the game, dont mind paying...... but £500!!!

PS I have tried the card recovery software etc etc but no joy, think they need stripping down (with a big hammer)
 
lots of software about to do that sort of thing, my local camera store has bloke who's whole job it is to unstuff stuffed cards.

and they only charge £20.

£250 seems a keen price....:augie

Actually for £125 I'll do both cards....:thumb2 if the pictures are there.....:blast nothing worse than making a promise and finding yourself at the wrong end of some angry punter saying you stolen my pictures....:blast
 
Thanks folks, but tried various softwares already, the main issue is that when the card is inserted, the PC doesn't register its there, just get the "Please insert a disk into drive H" when its already in there.

We know the photos are on there because we were looking back at them on the camera on the plane on the way home. Think we must have been a little keen removing the cards before the camera had finished with them or something?

just had another email from another Gangster suggesting its a "failed controller chip" but they need to examine it.

Try a slightly different approach......stick the cards in Mac maybe?

No idea if it'll work, but it's got to be worth a try :thumb2

Or perhaps try reading the cards with a Linux based operating system. They seem to be able to read all manner of file systems.

Also try cleaning the contacts on the back of the card with a pencil eraser trimmed down with a sharp knife in case it's a physical problem rather than a data storage/file system problem.......

Or even a cotton bud dipped in brake cleaner :nenau

A bit of smeg on one of those little contact strips could easily stop the card from being read.

Try all the off-the-wall but non-destructive free ideas first, then look at the expensive options if the images are worth it to you :thumb2
 
I might walk into local "Rozzers" claiming all sorts of Islamic Intentions :bow and tell them all the details of all my plots are stored on my cards.

They might do it for free! :JB

Great idea :thumb2 But they might offer you some free accommodation at the same time :D
 
Had a similar problem with my camera/card last year, cost £50 from the local "data recovery" specialist to get 90% of the photos off a 4GB card. He can't have been charging enough though, as he's closed down now!
