Any recommendations for joining Cortina to both the Grossglockner and Timmelsjoch passes?

I understand Cortina is a tourist node but looking to avoid the main busy routes.

Jaufen Pass - P di Costolunga - P Giau quick divert up to the Drei Zinnen - Grossglockner. According to Mapsource that's 240 miles and 6 hours.

BTW Grossglockner / Jaufen can get very busy at the weekends.

Over the Timmeljoch > St Leonhard (San Leonardo) > left to Walten (Valtina) > Jaufenpass to just before the Motoway and Sterzing > turn right and over the Penser Joch down to the outskirts East of Bozen (Bolzano) > Turn left to Tiers (Tires) > over the Nigersattel and Karerpass to Canazei > turn left and over Sellajoch, Grödnerjoch and Passo d. Falzarego to Cortina d'Ampezzo.

From Cortina > Passo Tre Croci > left to Schluderbach (Carbonin). At this point you can turn off right up the Drei Zinnen road (Toll) if you so wish. Route back to Schluderbach (or continue on if you don't divert to the Drei Zinnen) up to Toblach (Dobbiaco) > turn right to Sillian > over the Pustertaler Höhenstraße (Pustertaler High Road) and onto Lienz > Winklern > Heiligenblut and over the Großglockner.

Excellent route and roads.......have done it many times. All these roads/passes (and more) are on our four week summer tour itinerary in 5 weeks time with the southernmost point being Gardasee (Lake Garda). For a visual representation of the route I have described take a look at the map here http://www.uem-moto.eu/Tourism/OnlineUEMmaps/MR2frontside/tabid/249/Default.aspx which is also downloadable in pdf format either as single pages or the entire map to one page although this obviously will be quite small. This map (plus the others from the home page here http://www.uem-moto.eu/Tourism/OverviewUEMmaps/tabid/54/Default.aspx) are available as printed 26" x 20" sheets free of charge from ADAC offices here in Germany on production of an ADAC/AA membership card.

Enjoy your trip whichever route you decide upon and above all, safe riding. :-)

Worth a look

If you have time when you are down there to visit the stunning Lake Misurina

Pizza place north end of the lake with the jetty on the lake has Calzone to die for

This was the route we did last september (hiring beemers from Motogreek in Munich) maps.google.co.uk.

There was a bit of M-Way from Merano, as we were pushed for time...
