How often do you hear of cuts due to lack of money. Its all bollocks because there are millions of pounds available from local and national government for all sorts of ridiculous schemes. Trolley busses in Leeds are just the tip of the iceberg.
Now there is a plan to spend £30,000,000 (Yes 30 million pounds) on a cycle route connecting Leeds to Bradford.

If the cost alone is not a shock the plan also calls for speed limits in surrounding area to be reduced to 20 MPH. This is being described as a legacy of the Tour de France to encourage cycling.
Its only a start, and shows the power of the green lobby, its only a mater of time before the dales have a reduced speed limit, or even a reduced national limit.

"Councils short of money?????"

York Council will be short of money if they have to pay back all the fines taken on Lendal Bridge...

I agree with the principle of reducing limits on residential streets but from my view point, the majority of people who speed in my street are those who don't live there!
Mostly, residents are careful about kids and pets being around & the majority are careful to park as we all respect each other's property.
However, visitors and passers by (such as shoppers & delivery vans) aren't at all careful or respectful.
Unless we have speed cameras installed in residential streets I don't see how it can be managed & is therefore pointless and the money should be spent elsewhere.

Who wants to cycle along main road anyway? I'd rather get my mountain bike out & find a nice off-road trail.
