As you may already know the proceeds from the Wobble went to the local Air Ambulance.
So another big thanks to those that supported the event.
They have just sent me this update on thier service:-
Hi Alan,
We are extremely pleased to hear that you wish to support the County Air Ambulance Trust. All contributions are always gratefully received and acknowledged accordingly because, as you may be aware, the Trust and hence the Service are entirely funded by charitable support.
The County Air Ambulance is now established as a familiar sight over a large area of the country, readily recognised for the life saving skills brought to many patients. Since the service commenced, in May 1991, it has developed with the support of the public throughout the area served. Since its introduction many thousands of missions have been completed, each one clearly demonstrating the value of this unique, life-saving emergency service.
There can be no doubt that after an accident or the onset of a serious illness the sooner expert medical attention can be given to the patient the better chance there is of saving life and ensuring a better long term outlook. The County Air Ambulance responds rapidly and ensures medical attention is given as quickly as possible whilst taking the patient to the most suitable treatment centre. Its ability to provide skilled treatment and fast transport saves an average of one life every four weeks.
The cost of operating the County Air Ambulance Service is funded entirely through charitable support.
The benefits it brings:
Prompt and specialised medical treatment and care to an area of 8,000 sq. miles and a population of over 7.8million in Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Rutland, Worcestershire, Leicestershire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands and the Welsh borders.
The three helicopters are each based at RAF Cosford, near Wolverhampton; Strensham, in south Worcestershire; and East Midlands Airport which ensures that virtually the whole of the region can be reached in less than 19 minutes flying time following receipt of an emergency call. The County Air Ambulance Service covers a diverse region with a combination of urban and rural areas, motorways, trunk roads, factories and farms.
The aircraft are fully equipped with the latest medical equipment, a pilot and two highly trained paramedics to offer the finest available emergency medical help to be found anywhere. The first ‘new generation’ EC135 helicopter, incorporating state of the art technology and equipment, was introduced in 2001 and now operates from the RAF Cosford base and provides significant benefits in terms of performance and patient care. In 2003 it was further decided that a second such aircraft should be based at Strensham and 7-day operation implemented at all bases from 2004. In May 2006 a third such aircraft was launched at the Nottingham East Midlands Airport base. Thus providing a full complement of new generation helicopters at all bases.
For serious accidents or medical emergencies the speed of response is crucial. Receiving appropriate treatment and reaching hospital within the "Golden Hour" after injuries occur, or the onset of serious illness, dramatically improves the patient's chances of survival and speed of recovery.
Difficulties of access to remote areas, motorway accidents or industrial injuries at factory sites are equally overcome having the size and technology to land practically anywhere.
The aircraft are often safer than any other form of transport for critically injured or ill patients in need of special treatment or having to be taken long distances quickly for access to surgery, such as spinal injuries or heart and lung transplants.
Every case handled by the air ambulance is subject to detailed clinical audit and assessment, the outcomes of which provide clear and tangible evidence of the benefits to patients both through lives saved and in faster recovery times made possible by the speed and standard of treatment available.
Every month the service saves lives that might not have been saved had other means been employed and many hundreds of other patients enjoy enhanced recovery times because of skilled treatment and rapid transfers to specialist medical help.
The County Air Ambulance Service is provided in the most cost-effective way possible. At present, the annual costs of the service, reflecting typical patterns of usage, are approximately £2.4 million.
Every second of every minute, of every hour counts for serious accidents or medical emergencies and when the clock starts ticking off the minutes of the Golden Hour the difference between life and death is often a fast flying, appropriately equipped and crewed helicopter.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to tell you a little about the County Air Ambulance. Can you help someone when the Golden Hour becomes for them the most important hour of their lives?
Many thanks.
