Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what these are called and where I might get them from?

First one is the bracket that goes between the hand guard and the lever mount, on the left hand side. Just seems to be a small triangular-ish bracket that fastens onto the handguard with two screws and onto the lever mounting with one. Presumably BMW would want to charge me for a whole new bike front end just for this one bit. Anyone got a spare one kicking around from an upgrade to other handguards?

Second is a bar that holds up a Givi mount. There are two sticking out of the back and are a sort of laid-back L shape. The right hand one has snapped; looks like it's sheared off at the bike end. Not sure if it's the bolt that's sheared or the bracket, possibly the bolt, in which case it'll be what the bolt that screws into that needs replacing. Will need a bolt as well, of course, in either case. Checked with my local bike shop who wanted £77 for the entire mounting which is silly just for this one bit.

Thanks.

I had to replace the hand guard brackets last year after dropping my bike. I think they cost about £1.00 (one pound) each. Dealer had to order them as they were not in stock.

The Givi bracket would be weldable.Where are you?If you can get it to me i can have it welded at work.

The Givi bolts shearing there are a common fault - which is probably why the design of the Givi rack has now changed for something that has better support and replaces the OEM rack rather than sits on it.

With regards fixing your rack though - you will need to extract the remains of the bolt from the end of your frame using bolt extractors etc and then if you have not damaged the threads in your frame too much just get a long stainless bolt with the correct thread from a hardware store - you might want to look at getting the bolt out the other side to compare with (assuming that doesn't snap too)

Took a family member and I a whole Sunday with bolt extractors and then a tap and die set to remove the sheared off bolt - glad I have the other design on my GS.

handguard piece: just replace with a piece of plastic cut to size (like from a plastic drinks bottle or similar)

Saw somewhere that someone just used a piece of inner tube to attach this... or similar material. Its not bearing any weight, so anything you can cut and drill will do IMHO

Thanks for that. On closer inspection it is a sheared bolt; the brace is the same as the other side so not broken after all. Bike's going in next Monday for a Brake Failure problem to be sorted so I'll see if they can get me a handguard thingy as well.

Thanks karnevil. Chesterfield, but it looks like it doesn't need welding after all.

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but my right hand plastic thingy for the handguards is broken - my local BMW dealer can't order parts for the pre '08 handguards, they are not on their system (they've been withdrawn!!!), think I am just going to cut a piece of aluminium.
