I'm new to the GS forum so apologise if this has been asked before.

I was a a bike show recently and saw some elasticated material things that could be wrapped round the spring / shock set up, the whole thing was secured by velcro. I thought they may be useful for keeping the crud off the front shock on my GS (still new and shiny - collected it on Saturday - V nice :D :) :D :bounce1 ).

does anyone have any experience of this things, are they a good idea, where can they b got from.

Hi Mark, and welcome to the forum.

They do indeed seem like a good idea. Somebody asked about them once before, but I can't find the post now. I saw them at Bealieu this year, and they looked like they'd do the job OK, but I can't find anywhere to buy them online.

You could probably make your own with a sheet of neoprene and some heavy-duty self-adhesive velcro.

You get them for mountain bikes and are useful for keeping the mud off but you have to remove them after your ride to let the air in about your bits to avoid corrosion causing dampness. More hassle than they're worth if you're not going off road on a very muddy place. My shocks are 5 years old, done 40k and two winters and look almost as good as new, so I wouldn't worry about them.

Isn't it also true that the shocks rely on a certain amount of air flow through them to work correctly? (i.e. if the oil gets warmer, they will behave differently?) At least that's what I heard.
