cracked touch screen

Last year I purchased a MemoryMap ADV3500 and have endless problems with it. But just when it finally seems to be working, the screen cracks!
Now it won't react to the stylus or touch.
A search reveals that some owners were referred to the manufacturer and got a replacement whilst others were told to buy a new GPS.

So I emailed Performance Products directly & without looking at the damage, they've said it cannot be repaired

Is there anyway to repair a touch screen myself?

If not, can I buy a different GPS without having to buy the OS maps again?

Judging by this thread which you may have seen on the MemoryMap forum (http://www.memory-map.co.uk/support...5&t=2833&sid=86e69d830b09ecf5a98c6308728f1e70), the manufacturer might be able to repair for circa £80 or might offer to supply a replacement unit for circa £160 but I somehow doubt the screen is user-replaceable.

I would have thought MemoryMap should (if they are so minded) be able to authorise your OS maps if you went the replacement handset route.

if you have an an android phone or iphone you can download the memory-map free app and use your maps with that.

yeah, that's exactly why I emailed Performance Products who have said NO without even looking at it

Saw that MM do an app for my iphone, but I'd be gutted if I broke that whilst on the trails...
