Hi I mate has blown his F650 Dakar main bearing and is trying to avoid paying bwm a fortune for replacement crank assembly.........has anyone a spare engine, or better still crank assembly, (i.e. crankshaft, conrod complete in good condition) that they are willing to sell??
any help ideas for sourcing such items would be great!

Can't help with spares I'm afraid but I'd be interested in knowing more about the bearing failure -mileage,what you think caused it etc.
Tony

No chance of a crank regrind and oversize bearing shells ??

Hi, well,if I say too much it would be to identify the individual so to spare his blushes I will say only that
the reasons are to do with a long distance trial, a nightime climb of a long steep section in a low gear and at high revs, induced oil starvation, also apparently these bwms are more like rotax engines, if you know what I mean, and have their own set of parts numbers created by bwm for some reason (allegedly to prevent peeps from buying the cheaper rotax part??)
and the whole assembly is a press fit jobbie so lots of special tools/kit required.
costs from bwm start at £650 squids and up! :(

I thought the F650GS engine was made by Rotax (?)

Maybe a complete engine from a breakers like Motorworks or Sherlocks would be cheapest ??

does the guy in question's name start with a Y and end with an I ?

if it is his bike had a death rattle during the lands end trial and that was at easter time ;) , god knows how it held out till now

They are and it would be but they don't have any! :(

Looks like a formerly tidy bike Mouse, it would probably be easier to buy it and rebuild it using the other bike (Dakar) with the blown engine as a donor, unless the Dakar is very tidy.

Hi thanks for the ideas chaps, will pass them on
cheers
