crash bars / engine bar

SW motech are good, available from Motorhaus marketing. I had the uppers and lowers on my 1200 and were a good fit.

Got some on the 1100 but don't know the make:o

most of you have them , so whats the best and which work and dont work
cheers kev

I've got SW Motech ones and they look ok. Only had them on ayear so can't give any long term corrosion info. Cheap enough as well. Got mine sent from Germany off Ebay.

I bought Touratwat ones which arrived eventually and were twisted and didn't fit.

Bought BMW ones and surprise-surprise they went straight on... tipped over a few times and no tragedies...

I had the same dilema last year. In the end I went for hepco and becker after looking at a few types. General consensus seemed to be that the H&B bars stood up to off-road abuse better than the others.

1150 or 1200?

I can only speak from my 1150 experience, and that has to be Hepco and Beck. They are solid and can be extended upwards with add on tank protectors/crash bars.

can anybody post pics,, cheers kev

BMW ones :ronno

Touratech.

Went straight on, not twisted and are superb quality. Not much more expensive than the BM ones.

I can vouch for the strength of Hepco & Becker bars, having slid my bike in a shower of sparks up the road at 30 mph in the wet recently. The bike was virtually unscathed, handguard and mirror scuffed only. The H&B bars were ground down but saved the bike (especially the RH cylinder head) from damage. I mig-welded a bit of MS tube over the damaged section and sprayed it silver - now thicker than new for the next time.

I've also been side swiped by an Audi at walking pace in the UK, again the H&B bars trashed the Audi's door skins and my bike was unmarked.

A mate had standard BMW bars (nice and shiny). When he slid his GS up the road, the bars folded back and were trashed, although they did their job and saved the bike (he did have a slightly scuffed rocker cover)

I really rate my H&B bars, worth every penny I paid and more.:thumb2

Bars

What about a bike with engine bars only tipping the bike so the tank takes the damage.

I am only repeating what I have found on here so I am open to comments upon this.

To be honest, you can take only so many precautions.

Maybe trying not to fall over is the most economically viable, said Mr.Cheapskate.
