having mis placed my crowbar |I have given up trying to re-fit my "modified
adventure bars to the bike. So, anyone any info on the motec bars being offered by N N's? seem a good price and a but more protection than the old TT bars. Any opinons appriciated before I arrange the next morgage.

The crashbars in that top picture are crap for servicing work, and they don't offer much protection in a slide down the road. Plus you have to remove the whole lot just to change the alternator belt ( there's a section that crosses the alternator plastic cover at the top:rolleyes:) .
So if it snaps while your on the road it's not the usual 10 minute replacement and your on your way again. It's a tank off plus an hour if your lucky .

very many tghanks for the piccies and advice, I had BMW adventure bars on but after hitting a dog last year at high speed the bars got a bit distorted!.
They took the crash well but are such a job to "spring back" I think the time has come for new ones. When the crash occured Mr Steptoes words of wisdom were bornout, the straigh bit dug in the road and flipped the complete machine up in the air in a complete somersault and of course smashed screen and everything else!!. gaffer tape and string kept it going for a few thousand miles and the owner of TT in Santiago thought "thats what a gs should look like"!!. Still £600 later and it's almost back to normal with plenty of scars!. So what about hepco and beckers? I know they come with german instructions but think I can fit them ok anyone tried crashing these?
Many thanks for all the help and any future comments much appriciated.

I've also got the adventure crash bars and have been thinking of replacing them for a while after hearing that they can cause more damage than they prevent.

The hepco and becker bars look like they would protect the rocker cover in the event of a spill and I think a few have 'crash tested' them :D but what I would like to know is do they (like the SW Motech) need to be removed to replace the alternator belt?

P.S.. Steptoe... will you be making any more of those headguards????? They look like the best solution.

I have been out for a look and the ones on the black 850 are hepco and beckers

I've just fitted some SW motech bars to my 1150. Took about an hour. Chose them over the H&B ones because i read on this 'ere forum that they rust after a while. The SW motech ones are well finished - to change the alt belt all you would need to do was to remove or loosen 2 more bolts. Also I bought them from getgeared.com cheaper than NN (£109).

I have not dropped my bike yet, but only time will tell as to their effectiveness.
