Apparently in the US the 990 adventure upper light is a marker / sidelight and the combined main/dip bulb fits the lower light. In the UK main beam and low beam are of course separate and Cyclops make a different model for US/UK markets, the UK market bulb is just a main beam LED.

The UK/Euro 990's have a headlamp that utilizes separate H3/H7 bulbs for Hi and Low beam. The US 990's have a headlamp that uses an H4 that is a single combined Hi/Low bulb. The top bulb in the US headlight is just a simple "marker" light. Cyclops sells two separate setups for the US versus UK 990's. Just email if you need help, they will take care of you.

So I called Sportouring today and asked given that the bulb is a combined main and dip which bulb should it replace and will both dip and main LEDs illuminate if used as a main beam only - they couldn't answer my question and will get back to me once they 'have done some research'.

This here is what you want if you are just replacing the top (hi-beam) bulb.

Note that they have specific option if the bulb is to be used in a EU 990 headlamp, part #CIL-LED-H3-990

It looks like SportTouring.co.uk place lists the Cyclops H3 but, but not the 990 specific version.

Some confusion/conflict in what you say there.....the SMT manual (Aus/EU/UK) quotes headlight bulb type/spec as follows:
BULB H4 12V 60/55W (P43T)
...i.e. one bulb with twin filaments for hi /low beams ;-)
Are you talking of the 990 Adventure which may be different? (I don't know)

I've got the 1190 kit on my Adventure which replaces the high and low beam bulbs.

It's a bit cliched but it is like night and day...The difference is phenomenal. Much better beam spread but may need adjusting down slightly.

The install kit is plug and play, and doesn't throw up any canbus errors. The kits had a resistor change about a year ago and produce considerably less heat than previous kits.

I've just bought the same one through a discount deal over on AdvRider. Just wanted to check that I hadn't made an error about specifying the difference between the EU and US model. Did you do this and if not did the standard kit work for you?
