Has anyone experienced this..Bike has been acf'd and handful of outings in winter. Had some recent runs(no flood touring) and rocker heads covers now look like the have corroded under the paint. I first thought I had been peppered by some stones from a car/lorry in front, but the only marks are on the covers, no marks on cover protectors, forks etc.

A known problem. Usually they start to peel from the edge near the cylinder. My 2012 RT is having new covers fitted soon under warranty.

Cheers, good to know BMW seem willing to replace them. It seemed to happen very quickly, about a week I reckon. Took it out last week, washed it, let it dry and took it out today but canned the ride after my anger took over. Did you have any trouble with BMW over the claim?

So you didn't go for a ride because you were angry about the corrosion:confused: Takes all sorts I guess but easily sorted if you don't get anywhere with a claim. I bit of a rub down and some hammerite or get them powder coated and the jobs a carrot:thumb2

I know you shouldn't have to blah blah blah but it's all part of that special GS experience:)

Agreed, I should have taken the anger out with a enjoyable meander through the winding country roads, but a moment of insanity took over. I guess some elbow grease will be used to fix em up..will try bmw first then go from there. This is my 3rd one and out of the 3 its the pride and joy out of all of them. I think the it's the frustration of doing what you can to protect the beast but in the end you are at the mercy of the GS gods..

If BMW won't oblige have the covers powder coated. They are just covers so can be covered all over so less no peeling at the joint face.
Round off all sharp edges for better coverage. Flat off and paint over if you want a colour match.
Make sure the enamellers know it's magnesium alloy so they don't go too hot.

One of mine did this 2. Ended up buying a brand new set and selling the ones I took off.

Had my 2012 GSA rocker covers replaced under warrant without any problem . Wouldn't replace the rusty centre stand though !!

The way the rocker head cover bolts have corroded shows a general lack of ACF doing its job. The attacking agent isn't just limited to the rocker heads so it doesn't look solely like a bad paint job by BMW. Ask the dealer their thoughts and good luck. It can go either way when it comes to the warranty.
