OK.I was a twat and pulled away, whilst parked near a bollard, and spanked the bollard with said cylinder head, bending the gaurd out of all proportion, and then dropped the bike on the other side, damaging that cyliner head gaurd as well.:blast:blast:blast

Question is,do i replace with BMW original gaurds or change for something else (TT, etc)

Thoughts and opinions please and any piss taking you may want to do for such twatish riding!!

Richie

Not saying anything :augie

I would go for the TT gaurds as they are probably the best looking and most protective money can buy. :thumb

Or simply park in mother & toddler bays as they are so much wider! ;)

Did the BuMW ones protect your rocker covers?

If, yes? Why not replace like with like? You were happy with them before, I guess and they will have done their job.

If no, then maybe change to, say, the TT ones to see if they are any better. Which you won't know until you do the same thing again.

Neither will do much to protect your rocker covers in a big fall at speed.

Cost of either? I don't know I'm afraid.

Other than that, do what you want to do or wait for more replies.

PS Forgot the last alternative. Leave the scuffed ones on.

You'll notice that the bottom mount of the guards is a bolt at 90 deg (up into cylinderhead). On both sides these bolts on my bike have sheared and damaged the head after falls with the TT guards on. Bad design.
Perhaps the weaker BM guards don't cause this?

Always the same with protection - just transfering the damage elsewhere.:augie

Note: the TT guards work on the 1150 because the lower mount allows the guards to deform (absorbing the shock) without shearing the bolt.

Thanks for suggestions....

I particularly like the idea of parking in mother and child bays:D.

have opted replacing like with like,as you can buy them in singles. And if ding this one, it will stay dinked!!:augie:augie

Hooray :clap ... a bold decision, based on constructive commentary and support!

Just seen this and wondering if engine bars may be worth considering. I put the Motech lower bars(NN) on my 08 1200, over the BMW cylinder protectors. I've dropped it at slow speed on both sides and the only evidence is a little paint scuff on the bars, which is hardly noticible. To be honest with engine bars fitted, the cylinder guards are mostly redundant.

Hi,
The BMW gaurds are about £60 each, that does not include the rubber pads that fitt between gaurds and valve cover.
