D30 Diablo Armour

While the Chap in a Cap is a snake oil salesman, I’m glad this latest D3O is cupped to stop it flopping around inside clothing.

I’ve recently got some to put in my Klim trousers - no better / no worse than the ghost imho it replaced.
Only difference is it’s ‘cupped’ but that just makes it like the original armour I replaced in the first place when I got the ghost !

I like the bit where he states a problem with ghost is you can see it through the jeans and they show the pattern on someone’s knee and then says they “think” that won’t be a problem with Diablo and show them holding it over the knee!! I assume they fitted it, realised it’s the same or worse and so bailed on the idea!

I hate videos like that. Stick to the benefits, cupped will make it more stable providing protection to joints. No backing makes it more breathable. It’s lighter, going up a level is only a 10% weight gain. The video could be 2 minutes long and far better.

As it is I’ll almost certainly end up fitting some to my jacket but my jeans will likely stay with ghost.

Based on actual experience having bought some…

Good upgrade to fit and reassurance things won’t move out of place in my KLIM Marrakesh jacket.

Worth replacing the elbows in my BMW GS jacket for me (as I have a sensitive elbow after a long ago track off) but no difference in fit to the BMW pads.

Tried as a knee in my Rokker jeans but no real improvement over the existing flat L2 ghost that is already fitted (in a tailored pocket which keeps it positioned very well). Without the tailored pocket, which was another MotoLegends included service, I think the Diablo would have made more of a difference.

All in all a good upgrade IMHO but in selected application.

I would NOT buy a new piece of kit with the previous generation if Diablo was an option (as MotoLegends offers on some kit). If nothing else, the shaping and airflow is definitely an improvement and the new design avoids the need to tailor pockets or add Velcro as required for the flat ghost in some scenarios.

BTW - I completely disagree with the disparaging remarks on Chris and his videos. For sure he’s expressing his personal opinions, but these are based on experience not just the manufacturers marketing, and in person he’s never been anything but helpful and professional. He has never tried to sell me anything I didn’t need and has, on occasion, steered me to less expensive kit. A snake oil salesman he is not (and I’ve worked with enough of them to know the difference)!

I commented about Chris’s Motolegends videos because he skilfully mixes fact, expert opinion and—sadly—lies.

His videos come across as authoritative (he’s a knowledgeable guy) and engaging. However, he has commercial interests to protect.

I, too, have shopped at Motolegends in Guildford and found them great in-person. However, their videos could do without the sprinkle of significant mistruths.

I guess the acid test with this stuff is when you go down the road on your arse in it. However, I’ve replaced the standard D3o level 1 stuff in my Baja S4 jacket and troos hips with it. You get level 2 protection in a more flexible, no thicker and well-fitting package so what’s not to like?

I’ve also replaced the bulky and not very breathable Knox level 2 in my Pro Tube knee protectors with another set of Diablo. Same protection, much less bulk.

If it works, it’s a total winner IMHO.

I only found out about it via the Chap’s video so he’s on my Christmas card list :D

Got the stuff in my Rukka RPS AFT shirt now. Armour came a s courtesy of Klim Marrakesh upgrade, which I have purchased shortly after the launch of the Diablo stuff. But rather than wearing it in a Klim jacket I showed it into the RPS shirt. It then does sit in the right place nice and snug.

He’s not on mine.

Despite liking him for his knowledge of the products that he does flog, my opinion of the fellow has dramatically changed. I thought better of him in years and frankly days gone by. I’ll leave it at that…

Aw come on spill the beans....
