I'm fitting a set of Jesse pannier rails to my GSA and to do so I need to take the indicators off. They were shortened by the previous owner but not enough, so they have to come off to be either shortened more or use the Jesse mounts to push them back a bit.

Problem is that when I turn the 19mm nut that seems to be holding them on, the whole hollow bolt part (with the wires going through into the bulb) turns also. The bolt looks fairly corroded too so that's not going to help things.

Also the I'm only able to turn the spanner about 1/10 of a turn as it keeps hitting things. Do I have to take something else off before tackling the indicators? Am I doing it arseways?

thanks for any advice....

Undo the screw in the lens then remove the reflector bit inc undoing wires

look in you will see two phillips head screws on a metal bracket

Undo them and pull lightly the end should come orf

If you need the stalks off you needed to pull the wires off in there anyway

Then you can undo the nut that hols the stalk on in behind

done - I presume you mean here to take off the metal bracket itslef?

Ok, so I can see a metal pipe part which I presume is threaded at the opposite end which the nut is on (holding the indicator in place).

Do I try and hold this metal pipe with pliers while trying to undo the nut? That bloody nut is tough to undo. Maybe a rachet and socket can get in there...

Sometimes the big nut gets locked solid to the tube. You will just have to be brutal. Its happened on all 3 gs's Ive had.
Have a word with Mr Hacksaw if they wont move.

result!

Cheers lads. Got my big bastard vice grips to hold the bar inside the indicator and the nut loosened with a bit of pressure.

ISTR ...

... that Jessie panniers come with brackets to move the indicators out of harms way. It's a while since I fitted mine but it all seemed to work ok :nenau

Yes they do. You have two choices - you can either really shorten the indicator stems and the rails will fit no problem or you can use the supplied bracket to relocate them.

I used the bracket and relocated them
