Evening everyone

Ive just splashed out on a x reg(2000) 650 gs dakar,in a nice fetching black and white paint scheme,23000 miles on the clock and approx 10,000 since its last major service, plus various faults like scored rear brake disc, blown fork seal etc etc....which im in the process of sourcing parts for and re-igniting my old bodging skills for.

I will service everything on the bike that im capable of,as i always do when i buy a bike and then service most things that im too inept to really attempt, then cart it off to a workshop near Basingstoke ( any suggestions?)for the difficult stuff and to rectify all the bits that i cock-up.Im basically planning on a 100% service on the bike to be on the safe side.

Been searching the forums, and there is a few questions about work/repair's on the little bike, that appear not to have been asked before or im just crap at finding.

I need to replace my brake lines, preferably with braided steel such as Goodridge...The rear lines appear to be a normal size as for a 650 Gs,but does anyone know if the front line will be non-standard as the dakar has a few inches more of suspension travel...and would that make a huge difference...basically do i need to get them custom made?

Ive been trying to get a workshop manual such as a Haynes Manual, but it seems that the Gs 650 series is the only machine on the planet that Haynes does not cover, are there any alternatives that do the same thing?

Coupled in with the brake lines, progressive front springs are going to be put in to firm up the forks but i would like to actually up-rate the braking, maybe with a new caliper and disk setup...or a straight swap from another bike,i havent seen anything written up about this.

Last point is the Torx nuts, the ones on my bike are rusted to death and i intend to replace them....is it best to replace them with new Torx or can i go the high quality stainless hex bolt route with-out any problems?

Thankyou for any help of advice from the forum

Andy

Hello andy

You will find all the answers that you seek from the font of all 650 knowledge known as The Chain Gang Site.

Also there is a dedicated Uk 650 site that most of the 650 boys on this site also frequent and that can be found here.

See you at the Hograost?
