Hi

just bought a 04 dakar, Thanks guys who replied to my post about info on center stands for it,I have another question for you in the know out there, bought the Dakar to ride to Dragon rally this year instead of my new GSA, dropped my GS 1200 last year going up the bloody hill :blast,Dakar came with sahara front and tourance rear both worn, should i keep this combo when i replace, or change to MT 21, or TCK , Traveling up from sussex, bike will be used for bit of green laning and general mucking about on when i come back, helpful advice very welcome

I have to agree, although the TKC80 is not my favourite tyre, the use on motorway will kill the MT21, and they'll probably be spent in 1000 miles of road.
TKC will last longer but the compromise is the unsealed road performance, the TKC is not as good as MT21, but the Sussex trails are not too taxing anyway......

Timpo.

Hi

Thanks for info guys, Timpo off to dragon as well me thinks, not far to go for ya

I'd be tempted to try an MT21 on the front with a TKC80 on the rear, especially in the winter:)

Hi

Thats a good one, could reason be more grip from M21 front, better road wear from TCK rear, handling on road ? keep um coming.

I rode my Dakar with MT21's on the road over many miles, certainly good for alot more than 1000 miles and much better than TKC's in wet muddy conditions.

The Dakar isn't powerful enough to eat through tyres that quickly :thumb

Stick MT21's on it :rob

no but it will go through a rear sahara 3 in less than 3000 miles

Got tkc 80's on at the moment, not too shabby but a bit light on the front at speed, that's most likely my front suspension setup tho, not used tkc's with the stock front end, otherwise they are a good tyre.

For almost exclusive road work you can't go wrong with tourances, pretty good in my book :thumb2

For Roadwork I would highly recommend Conti Escapes on a dakar :thumb

TKC are probably the best 50/50 tyre, but the MT21 is much better off road and still handles well enough on road, hence that was the tyre I used mainly.

Thanks for all your replies guys, always glad for bit of help, Cheers

heidi 60 scout on dakar

Hi

Just another idea ,anybody fitted K60 scout to dakar, lot of K60 users in 1200 section, any thoughts on these either good or bad?

Karoos for me. Good off and on road and not too bad on wet tarmac either.

Dansin, how do the Karoos compare to TKC's?
Im running TKC's but am tempted to try something a bit better in the mud without loosing too much road ability.
:)

The block pattern is quite open on the Karoo so mud tends flick off quite easily. Doesn't seem to help stop me falling off though. :blast Biggest downside is tyre life I reckon. Mine's been used pretty much 50/50 on/off road and I'm not going to get 3000 out of the rear.
