I did try checking in the "search" to see if this had been already covered but without success.
The finish is crazed externally on the cylinder head, with pieces of finish missing, and also crazed where the head meets the block.
The bike is almost 3 years old, is regularly cleaned, serviced and garaged, and is in otherwise good condition. It has done 18,000 miles.
I have the BMW extended warranty, which expires next month, but my dealer says as this is a corrosion matter, it isn't covered by the warranty.
Has anyone any views or experience, please?
Cheers,
Michael.

The front engine cover was also a corrosion issue, and was fixed by dealers. I also had a valve cover replaced due to peeling paint. Can you post a pic, and someone may be able to advise if it is corrosion?

I agree with White Rabbit

My front cover was replaced under warranty for 'corrosion reasons'

I'd argue a bit and ask thenm to contact BWM

A few years back, my dealer changed the cylinder head, under warranty, when it suffered from "paint loss".

Mind you, the bike was only a year old.

I will have both heads, front engine cover replaced ( bike is in the 3rd year on extended warranty with 11k ).
Decision was made on the spot.Dealer taped in the computer the engine parts to be replaced and the computer said yes...Labour will be paid by me and the parts by BMW. As the bike goes in for service the replacement work will be done at the same time.

on my 08 gsa the left cylinder head had like a crackle glazed effect after the first service. The dealer loked at their demo and it too had it on the same side they replaced it straight away:)

simple:

the 2 year factory warranty covers corrosion. the extended warranty does not.

Thanks very much for all your input.
Ironically, I received a letter offering continuing warranty on either a month by month or annual basis.
My wife's opinion is that all insurance is a rip off, and you are never covered for the thing that you are claiming for, seems borne out, and I don't think I will take this up.
Cheers, Michael.
